In a similar incident that occurred previously in 2013, a camera captured the moment of a sperm whale carcass exploding. But that was partly due to human intervention.
WARNING! It is kinda gross with all the whale's guts spilling out in an explosive and shocking manner.
Apparently, the dead whale had been lying on the beach for 2 days. The guy in the video is actually a marine biologist by the name of Bjarni Mikkelsen. He was sent to cut it open. As he made incisions in the whale's side the carcass exploded due to a build up of methane gas from the decomposition creating a loud sound and releasing a pungent smell.
Scary!!!
